Helping the environment
Did you know that around 9% of all the plastic made is recycled and the rest of it is burned or just dumped in the environment or other counties?
The app encourages, motivates and supports households in disposing, reusing or reducing waste. The concept of recycling has been around for ages. Yet over 50% of households in the UK do not recycle. My objective is to build awareness and reduce waste sent to landfills.
How does it work?
After downloading our app and selecting an option from the following options: Recycle, Reuse and reduce, you'll be presented with three different sections. The recycling section provides the user information about the different types of material that can be recycled and how to prepare the item for recycling eg making sure it is clean or any labels are taken off. In the reuse section, we provide tips and information on different ways to reuse items such as using unwanted clothes for rags or putting them towards making something new and finally the reduce section provides tips on using items such as plastic bags, glass bottles etc by buying less and using them more than once.
The app will help you:
- find out what types of items can be recycled
- where your nearest recycling center is located
- connect with local non-profits who accept donations so that you can donate items instead of throwing them away
- use an interactive map to see what items are accepted at each participating store location (physical locations such as grocery stores)
In addition to providing this information, we want our users to feel empowered by knowing what they can do with their old stuff so that they don't needlessly throw it away
